The European Union’s policy for environmental intervention has
its origin in the international Conferences on the environment
and finds a new and unthinkable area of application with respect
to the principles that led to its creation.
Europe, which today is still undergoing a long term process of a
cultural, structural and political nature, finds in
environmental matters a new field of discussion and political
maturity.
Even if conceived by great statesmen and men of universal
vision, it has quickly had to deal with topics, such as
environmental sustainability, which have had an interesting
evolution.
The origin of the community, characterised by the issue of a
common market and monetary union, is enjoying and will
increasingly enjoy, a field of particular fertility in the
issues tied to equal social opportunities and the environment.
